The Ghosts of Christmas Past

Today is a special day in many places around the world. Unfortunately, we are not able to travel as we once did to see the many ways that Christmas is celebrated. So, I thought I'd bring you a few recent memories of our trip to Budapest so that we could all, once again, see what the world is supposed to be like. To celebrate Christmas, we will take a bit of a stroll through the Advent market that surround St. Stephen's Basilica.

Perhaps the most important thing here is food. There is plenty of it and it comes in a mind boggling diversity. There are sausages and sit-down dinners, sweets and strange things we'd not seen before. It was wonderful.

I hope the Christmas dinner at you home is all that you hoped it would be in spite of the covid.

There are, of course, lots of gifts for sale. This fellow is selling mostly ceramic angels.

The Basilica is also wearing its holiday suit with images projected on the facade. I'm pretty sure that the designer never thought of such an addition.

In front of the church is some of everything to eat, buy, or do. You can ice skate around the big tree. And there are crowds. Crowds in which the only thing we were worried about was pickpockets. That sure seems like a luxury these days doesn't it?

All these unmasked people serving us food. Not a mask anywhere. Just people doing what we've all done forever. Wouldn't that be nice to be able to do that with the fear of getting sick and dying?

Merry Christmas to all. Stay safe and enjoy life. Even if it doesn't look or feel like it did a couple years ago, it is still a life worth living. We can get vaccinated and be protected from dying and spend time with our families. Perhaps this is all we can ask for this season.
