Woodbine Cemetery

So, we've headed to Harrisonburg, VA to visit friends we've not seen in a couple years. It is good to see friends and visit familiar places. Of course, many places have changed a lot, so we are are also visiting new places as well. Today we start a visit to Woodbine Cemetery in Harrisonburg to see a few of the more interesting markers. As you can see, spring is on the way and these small blue flowers (crocus perhaps?) are coming up everywhere.

Some of the markers are simple in design. This cross is an elegant reminder of the resident's location. The moss discoloring its edges suggests its age.

One of the more interesting family plots is this group of three internments with the child, Quita, in the center and the parents, identified simply as "Father/Mother of Quita". While mom and dad do have more specific information on their stones at the base of the monuments, it is touching that they chose to be first and foremost be recognized as the parents of their daughter (I assume). Her loss must have been the great tragedy of their lives.
