No visit to Staunton is complete with a stop by Thornrose Cemetery. While three are not many gravestones that stand out as special, there are plenty that display the victorian styles of draped urns and simple geometric shapes.
Over a portion of the road through the cemetery stands this bridge and tower structure. Gives the place a greater sense of age and grandeur.
So many markers filled with details that make this place special. The carving and the life it suggests combined with the name and dates tella story.
This marker has a sphere on the top, representative of eternal life. The Victorians were big on this sort of symbolism. It fits well in this city of the dead.
