Well, we are back home in Snohomish now and, surprise!, it's been raining. Once the showers stopped, I headed out to see if spring is catching up with us here in the cool, damp north. There is evidence that we are, in fact, going to have a spring this year.
Everything is wet but also many things are blooming. Some of the flowers have brown bits on them suggesting that these particular blossoms are already past their prime.
The flower in this image below has water drops on the back of the petal that look at the top as if they are, indeed, water drops; at the bottom, they lose their three dimensionality and look like holes in the flesh of the petal. Very curious. A floral Swiss cheese.
Here's one of those flowers that seems to already gone past its prime. Whatever the reason, it has taken a beating in the recent rain we've had.
This one appears to be a bit more sheltered from the elements and is faring better. The petals merely look like a rumpled petticoat, not a storm torn dress.
