I have visited the Staunton train station many times and taken lots of photos here. On this day I found a few old subjects to try again.
Train stations just always feel like a place to shoot monochrome. All that machinery painted in the colors of a logo or company brand. I prefer to move past that and focus on the shapes and textures.
Today, I was treated to a train arrival. Brings back many memories of meeting trains here to deliver Anna for the ride back to university or fetch her home for the weekend.
See how much more clearly you can examine the train and its place in the station when in B&W? The distracting colors go away and the essence of the machinery becomes clear. Even the engine exhaust is more apparent in the image below. Instead of a color photo of a machine moving, it becomes the image of a creature that exhales much like a whale.
