Kamaole Beach

Even here where the sands are mostly white it is easy to tell that this place is formed from volcanoes. The lava rocks are scattered everywhere.

The small portion of the beach where I was sitting was mostly protected by several larger deposits of lava. I wonder how many of the people serenely paddleboarding in the cerulean sea really think about the possibility that one day, more of these lava deposits could appear. Violently, perhaps.

But that day is not this day and the gentle breezes, calm sea, and warm sun makes this a place to relax and soak up its charms. While there are people around, it is not so crowded that it is impossible to get moments of solitude. This is the soul-healing treatment needed after two years of isolation, endless rain and cold since September, and growing spiritual need to get out of Snohomish even if for a little while.

Chickens seem to be a species that has gone feral here on Maui. I was hard pressed the first day to decide if their presence was mere ubiquity or if there was a "chickaletta" effect going on here where folks just brought their hens and roosters with them wherever they went.
