Along Beverley Street, Staunton

Outside the storefront that was originally a haberdashery (an is now a cigar store), we find the traditional sign of such a place: the umbrella. I've never tried to look at it from this angle before.

Around the corner, the cigar store shows its awnings and sad, winter window boxes.

On down the street, is the Witz building. Isaac Witz was, among other things, a partner to James Fulton and together ran a factory on the wharf that made work clothes. In the 1890's, Fulton bought the house in which we lived while here. His two daughters, Ruth and Nancy, continued to live in the house until the 1980's. After another owner or two, we bought it.

Inside the Witz building, we find a large, open interior surrounded by offices.

The building has not been well maintained and it clearly needs lots of work. Nevertheless, it retains its elegant style.
