A Long Walk

We had a bit of sun the other day (getting rarer now) and I went on a long (~2 hr!) walk to see someplace new. Driving is faster to get there but then I have to find a park to get out and explore and it is just easier to walk to see places in or near town.

As you can see, fall is finally upon us. The maples are turning and soon other trees will join them.

A block or three from our house is the Centennial Trail. This is a paved walking trail that runs through Snohomish County along the old rail bed.

There is one short stretch of rail still left next to walking trail. It happens to be at an intersection with a stop sign. This allows me to get the interesting image of a section of railroad that ends with a stop sign.

Even though the sun is out, it had not been out all day so there were a few raindrops still on the leaves of this flower (?). Hard to tell if this is a flower, really. It seems to be merely a cluster of leaves on the end of a stalk.

By walking, I am able to find curious things that might go unnoticed otherwize.
