A Visitor in the Fog

It seems that everyone in western Washington loves to go boating. Even this Great Blue Heron is getting into the act by find a perch on a bit of floating debris.

After surveying the area for a while and posing for me, he decided to fly away. Actually, it was my fault because, as usual, I kept trying to get closer and eventually I got to close for comfort and off he/she went.

I tried repeatedly to get a good photo of the heron flying away, but alas, this is as good as it got. At least you can get an idea of the grace of these large birds in flight.

But there was fog a'plenty to adorn the far shore once the local resident moved on.

Even if you don't care for this sort of moody image, it is at least good for finding dirt specks on your display screen. I always find spots to clean when looking at these images.

The image  below shows the density of the fog. You can see the nearer jetty is much more clearly defined than the farther bridge. It makes for a nice contrast in the shot and give it a bit of depth even though all this is well away from us (perhaps ½ a mile or a bit more).
