A Winter's Walk

I'm always happy to see the range of colors and textures one can find even on the coldest days of winter here.

There is something about the shape of the leaves below that suggest a  complicated traffic interchange to me. No, it doesn't really look like that, but it really puts me in the mind of such a thing. Perhaps it is the gentle curve of the stem as it "reaches around" to come into the three-way leave junction at just the right angle.

Out in the bright sun, the moss is thriving. As is the case in most of nature, the small plants and animals are tough and come back quickly.

Out by the edge of the sidewalk there are pine needles and lichens. We often see these along sie where we walk but we seldom really notice the colors and shapes they make. Perhaps I can encourage you to stop once in a while on our walkabouts to look down and notice the small bits that nature gives us for free.
