A short drive along HWY 101 from Sequim to Port Angeles and we find the road that takes us to Hurricane Ridge on the northern edge of the Olympic National Park.
The weather wasn't great, but at least it wasn't foggy or raining (yet). Below is a look from about ¾ of the way up looking back to the northeast. That's Mt. Baker on the right and parts of the Juan de Fuca Strait in the middle.
On top of the hill at about a mile above sea level we get a good view of the park looking generally in the easterly or southeasterly directions.
It seems that are still Native Americans that live in this park. If this is the life you want, this is an excellent place to find it. Miles and miles of nothing but you, trees, snow, and wildlife.
Near us the wildlife is fairly benign...just a few deer out on the grassy slopes for a feed.
But at the higher altitudes, the conditions are unforgiving. I shudder to think about what it is like in the winter. The reason you're seeing this shot in the spring and not back in the winter when we were sitting in Sequim before is that between November and April, chains are required to be allowed on the road up here.
