Our final stop on the journey back home is in Winthrop. This small town is notable for choosing the theme of an old west town complete with wooden sidewalks and buildings with unfinished wood tossed about in gay abandon.
One of my favorite buildings here is this gas station. Except for the modern pumps out front and the nice uniform glass in the windows, it is very much in the spirit of the old west.
One of the boutique stores sold these small grotesques. It is unclear to me what their purpose is but they are cute.
In some places there are nice decorative touches that add to the ambience.
In other spots, it is simply the total embrace of the theme that give the flavor you came for.
Even with the modern touches, however, the gas station does a great job of capturing the look and feel of the town.
This look at a detail along the sidewalk in front of a store gives a juxtaposition of the old and new styles. This sort of shabby chic is what this town is all about. A great place to spend a day or so shopping and taking in the feel of strolling an old western town.
