Big Beef Creek, Seabeck

Not too far away from Sequim is the village of Seabeck, on the Kitsap Peninsula. Here is where the Big Beef Creek joints the Hood Canal. Every year about this time, there is a small fish, called a midshipman, that runs through here to the canal. This brings out the birds in significant numbers.

As usual, we arrive near midday and missed the real show. It seems that this happens at low tide when the fish are easy to catch in the shallows. We were, naturally, about 6 hours away from low tide. Yet, we still found plenty of herons posing for us.

This heron found a morsel in the water to help with the constant need for food.

The real reasons people flock here this time to year is to photograph the bald eagles. There were still several lurking about. This one is hunting from a perch over the canal.

Across the canal we see the Olympic Mountains shrouded in clouds.

Over our heads, sitting on a wire, is a belted kingfisher looking for some lunch.

Along the shore is a Red Shouldered Hawk waiting for his opportunity as well.

This brings us to the end of our visit to the Olympic and Kitsaps peninsulas. Stay tuned for the next chapter in our travels. Now that the country is opening back up, our travels are continue.
