More of the Semipalmated Sandpiper

We soon discovered why the sandpiper was figgety: she had a nest in the stones beside the road and was quite anxious about our presence. However, she eventually gave up on trying to lead us away and went back to her nest.

While it is easy to see here in these photos, if you discard the telephoto lens and look at the stone covered area from a distance, this bird almost disappears. Very good camouflage.

Sitting as still as possible, she warms here eggs in a place with few sources of heat.

I think the sounds of our shutters and quiet conversations caught her attention.
