Zentralfriedhof - VI

Away from the more frequently visited areas, we find markers that are in need of some maintenance. However, the lush vegetation does give it a quality that the more neatly tended graves don't have.

Out near the front wall of the cemetery we find graves of those that were just as famous as those in the central portion but whose fame faded rather quickly or those famed persons who were not Austrian.

One of the well-known foreigners is Antonio Salieri, While his stone is not as impressive as many others, we see that he is still remembered by the offerings of flowers.

Many of the others found along this wall were decorated soldiers.

But even here, on the edge of the metropolis of the dead we occasionally find a prominent name. Here lies Carl Czerny. His life spanned the late classical and early romantic period. He composed more than a thousand pieces and was one of the best-known pupils of Beethoven.

This is not the sort of pose one expects to find for a statue in a cemetery.
