Zentralfriedhof - V

The cemetery is also home to a modern, but quite splendid church, the Friedhofskirche.

It is done in a classic style with modern art and stained glass.

There are candelabras located on the walls that have designs that remind me of native american designs.

the ceiling of the central dome is quite striking.

The symmetry adds to the grandeur and the serenity of the place.

Back outside, we see the grave of Ludwig Boltzmann. On his gravestone is the equation we associate with his name. Interestingly, he never wrote the relationship this way. The equation in this form was first published by Max Planck who also named the constant "k" for Boltzmann.

In 1903, Boltzmann, together with Gustav von Escherich and Emil Müller, founded the Austrian Mathematical Society. His students included Karl PřibramPaul Ehrenfest and Lise Meitner.[11]

In Vienna, Boltzmann taught physics and also lectured on philosophy. Boltzmann's lectures on natural philosophy were very popular and received considerable attention. His first lecture was an enormous success. Even though the largest lecture hall had been chosen for it, the people stood all the way down the staircase. Because of the great successes of Boltzmann's philosophical lectures, the Emperor invited him for a reception[when?] at the Palace.[13]

In 1906, Boltzmann's deteriorating mental condition[clarification needed] forced him to resign his position, and his symptoms indicate he experienced what would today be diagnosed as bipolar disorder.[11][14] Four months later he died by suicide on 5 September 1906, by hanging himself while on vacation with his wife and daughter in Duino, near Trieste (then Austria).[15][16][17][14]

I thought you needed another view of the strange gravestone you saw earlier.
