Along the Nome-Teller Road

In the bushes along the sides of the road, we often spied rock ptarmigans monitoring the surroundings for predators approaching their nests.

Near a river crossing we stopped to look about and found a semipalmated plover that had nested in the gravel beside the unpaved river access road.

Curiously, she never flew away... only strutted about.

Down by the river she is looking for food.

The low angle of the sun really shows off this handsome bird.

Once she settles on her nest, you know that she means business.
