I cannot tell you who this marker is meant to remember. I was so jarred by the appearance of a naked woman sitting on the knees of a skeleton facing the deceased that I failed to note the resident. Many body parts of distorted and misshapen. This is a really strange gravestone.
Below is the stone commemorating Gottfried von Preyer.
Preyer studied with Simon Sechter from 1828 to 1834. He became professor of harmony and composition at the Vienna Conservatory in 1839, and from 1844 to 1849 he was director of the conservatory. He was also Vizehofkapellmeister and Domkapellmeister of St. Stephan.
We also fine Hugo Wolf here. He composed lieder, a form of art song that was popular in the romantic period.
Here lies Anton Rückauf, composer, pianist, and teacher.
Johannes Brahms is also found here.
Naturally, there are many Strauss' to be found in this cemetery. This is Johann Strauss, jr. buried here with his third wife Adele Deutsch.
