On Sundays, there is a small farmer's market in Murphys. It is located in a small park that sits next to Murphys Creek just a block or two from main street.
There's food and flowers and people doing perfectly normal things. Been a good while since we were in a place and time where normal stuff happened.
Plenty of color in the flowers on sale.
There were also families (and their pets) enjoying the creek. Now, you may well ask, "Where is all that water coming from?". After all, we are in California in the midsts of an epic drought. The short answer is that I don't know. I've always been a little amazed at the amounts of water that comes out of the mountains and flow in rivers. Even during normal times, it never seems to me that rain, that is spread out over many square miles, that soaks in to the soil, that evaporates, that nourishes a mind boggling number of plants, is enough to also fill streams and rivers the way it does. So, don't ask me how this happens.
As you can see, it is not a large market. Yet it is fun to get out and buy some good bread, see some lovely flowers, and enjoy people.
After shopping, we headed up to main street to sit at the coffee shop for some more people watching and enjoying a cuppa and some honey on toast. As you can see, the outdoor seating is cooled by an array of misters located along the edge of the street. Surprisingly, this really makes a difference.
