Angels Camp Catholic Cemetery - II

Some of the gravestones are fairly ornate. Clearly, there was money in this family. It is an odd thing to put together...lots of money from mining or a support business out in the middle of nowhere.

Below, we see at the top of this marker a weeping willow denoting the sorrow felt by this loss. At the bottom seems to be the loss of a child. My Italian is pretty bad but it may also indicate the loss of a parent at about the same time. Perhaps it was an accident or disease.

Unsurprisingly, there are Irish in the cemetery as well. It seems that the wife outlived her husband by over 30 years. Not a easy feat in a place filled with transient people of questionable character. She must have been a strong woman.

We do find a few angels here.

The loss of Cecil O'Brien is marked by a slumbering child on this stone.

This person's family put some effort into carving this wooden marker. A substantial item and it still stands. I suppose the family could not afford a carved stone.

This fellow is remembered both in stone and with a photograph. He must have been reasonably well-to-do.
