Donnell Vista

About an hour from us, up the Sonora Pass highway is the Donnell Visit. This location, just off the road, sits on a rock outcropping above Donnell Lake. This is one of three reservoirs in the area that provide water to this part of California.

Don't ask me how that, now dead, tree once grew out of this rock.

This is not so far as the crow flies from Yosemite and you can tell from the abundance of granite here that we are in the same neighborhood.

Looking east, we see the higher ridge of the Sierras looming above.

Like the part of western Washington we live in, this area is filled with evergreens. The difference here is that the trees carpet these massive granite fields.

In this view, you can see a little of the dam that generates the lake. Unlike the lakes nearer to where we are living, this one does not seem to be much lower than normal.
