The Currin and Mosby Creek Bridges

The area around Cottage Grove is littered with covered bridges, so after those in town, we headed out to survey the countryside for more. First up is the Currin Bridge that spans the Row river.

Although you cannot see it in the photo above, it is painted white on either end and red on the sides. It is the only two-color bridge in Oregon.

If you compare this with the photos yesterday of the Chambers bridge, you will notice that it is much less stout since it is not intended to carry the weight of a train hauling lumber. You will also notice that the portion at the top of the window is painted the red color of the sides of the bridge so you can at least see that I'm not making that up.

You can also see the fence across the far end of the bridge. This one is only open to pedestrian traffic from one side.

Next stop was the Mosby Creek bridge. Mosby creek is a tributary of Row RIver. This bridge is one you can actually drive across (and we did drive across all the bridges where possible).

You can see from the wet tire tracks, this is a bridge that is well used by the small community it serves. Out the end of the bridge you can see the wet, foggy day we were having.
