Foggy Mountains and Mossy Trees

The day we out to see covered bridges was a dreary one. There was fog and rain for much of the day. Since we were in our nice CR-V, all dry and warm, it was still a good day. Along the way, I was able to grab a few shots of the countryside to share.

Like the Snohomish area, there are plenty of evergreen trees. The borders of the evergreen stands are deciduous trees, again like home. However, what is different here is that these bare trees are heavily blanketed with mosses and lichens. Much more so than around Snohomish. We only see such coatings on the trees when we venture up into the mountains. This much mean that it really rains a lot here...a lot more than we are used to seeing.

The small, bare trees just across the dirt road below are brighter than the evergreens behind because of the lichen coating them.

Here is a close up of a few similar trees so you can see what is going on.

The covering give the trees a special sort of glow in monochrome. It is a bit unearthly. Kinda makes you wonder if these trees move about at night in search of victims.
