The Stewart, Dorena, and Parvin Bridges

The Stewart covered bridge is one of the bridges that has not (yet) been renovated. As you can see it sits disconnected from either river bank and has become a destination for graffiti. I like this angle of view especially because you can see that a rope is tied to the bottom for folks to swing out to the river for a swim. I'll bet that Mosby Creek that flows under the bridge is cold in any season.

If you find this bridge on the web, you'll see that my photo shows it in a worse state than that web site reports. It seems likely that it is in some intermediate stage of repair.

The Dorena covered bridge spans the Row river. This one is just of the opposite of the Stewart bridge...this one can be driven through.

You can tell from the green growth on many of the timbers inside that may be mostly original. This wood has been here a while. The wet tire tracks also suggest that this is a two-lane bridge if you are very careful.

I found it interesting that the metal rods that connect the upper and lower portions of the support structure that pass in from of the white painted windows are themselves painted white.

The Parvin bridge is another one that is in current use. It spans Lost Creek near Lowell. It is clearly a one lane bridge.

Inside, it is pretty standard with beams and support. The roadway is designed for single lane traffic.
