A Morning in the Sun

The sun is always low in the sky here but in the winter especially so. As a result, even in late morning or early afternoon, the shadows can be long. This makes for a lazy photographer because now I don't need to get up early to get the good light.

Birds are problem here. There are places, such as near the water as you have seen from our recent trip to Sequim, where they are easily found. However, the forests here are very quiet. Only a few sparrows and the occasional Steller's Jay in a hike or an hour or more. Perhaps the most reliable way to spot a bird is to look for yard art. These cement birds are also much easier to photograph.

This plant below seems to be confused about what time of year this is. There are brown dead leaves, blue seed pods, and flower buds. I would have associated each of those with a different time of year (winter, fall, and spring, respectively) but here it is all happening at once.

On the shady side of a neighbor's home there was still a plethora of water (normally, I'd call this dew, but it really is the remains of rain) still remaining on the leaves.
