Sunrise, Sunset, and the Next Day

After the pre-Christmas snow, we had a morning clear enough to see Mt. Baker. Just to give you a sense of scale here, it is about 130 miles from the front deck where I took this image and the mountain. While it is not as tall as Rainier, it is still a really big mountain.

As the pre-dawn sunlight illuminated the clouds over the mountain, we get this image filled with oranges and purples. I can't promise that this is actual colors, but we're in the ballpark at least.

This is why we house sit. Getting up in the morning to this sight goes a long way to make this sit memorable.

Surprisingly, it was clear-ish all day. The image below was the sunset.

And the next morning, later in the morning, once the sun was actually above the horizon, we got this fine view of the mountain.

See, if you are patient and get a house sit long enough, you really can get a day with few enough clouds in the PNW that allows you see a mountain. At least once in a while.
