Cline Spit County Park - Song Sparrows

We stopped by the Cline Spit County Park again and found several song sparrows to entertain us. This fellow above is stretching his neck up to hava look about. This is apparently part of the mating behaviour. The end of December is the time to begin this mating dance 'cause spring is a'coming.

When one of these small brown birds settles on the barbed-wire fence nearby, he posed long enough for me to get some images.

It was a windy day and when the bird turned his back to the wind, the feathers on his head would be blown up and make it seem as if he has points or ridges on his head.

Here, the wind has given him an ear tuft. One of the great things about birding is that you learn that even the small, rather plain birds are quite interesting when you can get close enough to get a good look.

Once the birds all flew away, I turned to have a look westward towards Port Angeles. There were clouds coming down from the mountains and brewing for a bit of rain.
