A bit farther westward along the coast of the Juan de Fuca Strait is the Salt Creek Recreation Area. This is a nice campground on a bluff at the ocean. At one end, is Tongue Point where one can walk out to the rocks next to the sea. From there, we could look down to the small rocky, shell littered beach to see a few birds. The one above is a Black Turnstone.
Not far offshore is a collection of rocks where various birds perch to rest. In the image below we see a surf scoter checking out the surf for another round of food hunting.
Meanwhile, on the near shore an immature gull is giving me the side eye as if he knows something I don't. My guess is that he does indeed.
The turnstones seems to forage in packs. This one is closely searching among the stones and shells for a morsel to eat.
