Alive or Once Alive Things

Today we swing away from inert things to things that are currently living or were recently in that state. Leading the parade today is a spider I found nearby. There are lots of these fellow (ladies?) here now.

But even yet, after so many days of shooting flowers, I do occasionally find something quite different. I have no idea what this plant it, but the color scheme is pretty startling.

This is some sort of lily that has, in a move both bold and shameless, pulled its petals back to expose the sexy bits in case no one has seen them yet.

This colorful flower, admittedly a bit past its prime, is still a looker. And it visited by a housefly who apparently admires it as well.

Here is another one of those blooms where the intense color completely overwhelms the textures of the petals. I prefer it this way - more sober and dignified.

I mentioned the other day that summer is getting on in our little corner of the country. Well, here's evidence... the leaves on this tree are changing into their fall attire.

I found a tree stump on my walk that had lots of texture and an interesting palate of subdued colors.

Parts of it seem more like an orbital view of another planet with tall mountains and deeply gouged canyons. No good place to land the spaceship here.
