Stairs of Snohomish - 1
While the street in front of our house is pretty flat, that is only because it runs along parallel to the crest of the hill. Once off this street, things get hilly pretty quickly. This means that most people have stairs leading from the sidewalk to their front door. Today's challenge is to photograph them with a fixed focal length (35 mm on the X-H1) and in B&W. See what you think.
It is often the case that the stairs are part of a garden with lots of bushes and flowers planted about.
Sometimes the stairs are simply a way to get up the hill and are so long that there is light part way up the hill to be sure that you can see what you are doing.
Another way is just the direct, up the hill and through the hedge method.
These are built of wood and come in several sections.
Even when there is no great hill to climb, there are stairs up from the street since the houses are elevated above the street level. Here it is nicely framed by the tree in the verge.
This house is higher up above the street level.
These stairs feel more permanent that the metal and wooden ones we see above. This stone entrance is quite imposing.
And our entrance is simple and to the point.
I thought I'd end today's offering with some B&W flowers. I found it interesting to see the tulips sharing their bed with dandelions and everyone is in full bloom.
Tomorrow, we'll finish our study of stairs.
