Santa Fe at Christmas Time

Back in 2009, we headed off to Santa Fe, NM for Christmas. This was well before we began housesitting, so this was a stay in a hotel for about a week.

While there we drove up to Taos to visit the pueblo and see what life is like here.

Now, I'm no Georgia O'Keeffe, but I can make a photo of a cow skull. this one was decorating one of the posts at the pueblo. I am fascinated by the way the post itself is carved. It would not occur to me to take the time to shape one this way. Perhaps I'm just lazy. Or unimaginative.

In Santa Fe, in fact, at the Georgia O'keeffe Museum, there is a patio for sitting outside at the cafe. This lone Christmas ornament hanging amid the white snow and earth tones of the building made an interesting composition.

Here's the main square after the snow squall lifted.

This cactus seems to capture the spirit of the high desert. A blossom in the snow. Ice among the thorns. Beauty, danger, necessity, and life all in one place.
