Dead Horse Point - 1

After leaving New Mexico, our next destination was Moab, UT to visit this spectacular region of desert once again. Our purpose this visit is to see Dead Horse Point State Park and the Island in the Sky in the Canyonlands National Park.

Standing at the overlook at Dead Horse Park we can see the La Sal Mountains that so frequently appeared in the views from the Arches. Much closer are the blue pans of water evaporating to produce potash.

This is the Colorado River winding its way through these canyons making poetry from stone.

You can also notice thin white lines far below on the canyon floor. These are (unpaved) roads that we do see vehicles on occasionally. People are out exploring this wild landscape much more intimately that we are.

Imagine riding a horse through this part of the country 150 years ago. Once in the maze, how would ever survive to exit?
