A Bit of More Recent History

The central plaza in Santa Fe seems to stay decorate for Christmas permanently. In this part of the country, part of this is the large strings of dried chillies.

Just off the main plaza is this old building. It is filled with stores and restaurants now (be sure to visit the Shed just down the street...very good food). But this corner is of interest.

Next to the Rainbow Man's store is the entrance that leads back to a small courtyard and others stores behind. But by the entrance is a sign telling you that there is more to this place than the shops.

In this part of the building was the small, unobtrusive public face of the Manhattan Project. The non-technical folks who were hired were told to come here. Once they were processed into the "secret club", they were blindfolded, loaded onto a truck and driven to Los Alamos. Not only did their friends and family no know where they were, they didn't know. that's what I call a secret operation.
