The food concession area is on the front of the building and if you walk through it toward the front of the building, you pass through a beautifully panelled smoking area and onto the balcony overlooking Andrassy Street. Looking up and back toward the opera house we see a series of small balconies on floor up (I presume that they are useable by someone, just not me) and the intricately designed ceilings over them.
Walking back inside, we get another view of the amazing ceiling over the bar.
We then walked to an area to the left of the main theater and find a long hall that is built to provide access via another set of stairs.
As you can tell, this hallway is dominated by an amazing set of marble pillars leading to the ceiling.
The reason for this hallway is to provide access for the red carpet stairs. This is the Emperor and Empress' entrance. They and their entourage would walk up this stairway into this magnificent hall. Behind me as I took this photo is a very large mirror. Since this formalities of royal entrances were strict, they were not allowed to look around or behind themselves. Thus, this mirror provided a way for them to see what everyone else were allowed to easily see.
Being rich and powerful must have been a real ego trip.
