The pulpits in this church are quite remarkable. The gold and marble are used to good effect.
There are so many side altars here, each more glorious than the last.
Not being a gothic style church with the tall windows on either side, it is difficult to imagine how this place was lit in the 18th century, especially in the long dark winters. But the small windows with modern lighting make this a special place.
This is certainly true for the many side altars where it must have been only dimly lit by candle light.
One can only imagine how many pounds of soot must have been cleaned from the marble and golden surfaces each year as a result of the candle light.
One of the curious bits here and in many other churches here are the glass enclosed balconies on either side of the main altar. Perhaps this was where important people would attend the service with having to mi with the commoners in the main hall.
