Dohány Street Synagogue

A few blocks away from the RUmbach Street Synagogue is the Dohány Street Synagogue. This is much larger and grander place. Above is the view from the side. The twin towers you can see the tops of that adorn the front as mostly obscured by trees and other distractions.

I posted photos of this marvelous place back in 2019. You can see similar photo of there.

But inside, the distractions fall away and you are confronted with an amazing place filled with more arabic style. As you can see below, it is very large. As was the case on Rumbach Street, the balconies contain seating for women and the main floor is for the men. The many flags indicate the language being used in that section for the description of the building and its history.

There are many places that are painted in gold but none of it so flamboyant as we've seen in the other buildings I've post about recently. But it is still filled with wonder. The stained skylights, the elegant chandeliers, the rich wood paneling and seats...it all combines to make a place of rare beauty.

There is plenty of marble to be seen here as well.

In the front is the holy of holies and, interestingly, there is a pipe organ in a loft behind it.
