Holy Trinity

This appears to be the place that the priest sits when not busy doing priest things.

Orthodox iconography leaves little doubt as to who in the image are the holy ones. There is also a bit of geometry in the halo choices. You will notice that the Jesus (among others) has a circular halo while God has a triangular one. Three cornered halos is used represent God or the Trinity. And as we've seen in other places, the square halo is sometimes given to a living (at the time of the painting) person.

I really don't know why there is a balcony in this church. My limited research does not make it clear if there is likely to be separate seating for men and women. Maybe it is just overflow space. I'm quite sure that one of you dear readers will know the answer (you know who you are).

It is a beautiful place. We came late in the afternoon and it was empty and quite.A very nice, meditative space.

A grand place to visit on your next rip to Vienna.
