Above is the view looking in the direction the Emperor would walk up the stairs. Behind the woman is the mirror placed for them to see behind themselves.
Every hallway in this place is filled with paintings, gold leaf, and intricate designs.
Even the wooded doors are covered in golden designs. This is along the hallway leading to the royal box in the rear center of the theater. we could see into it but it was closed to us. Good photos were impossible through the glass in the doors.
But in the theater is the glorious ceiling. This camera does a better job with the colors tham my iPhone did and now you get a better idea of it looks like.
The main curtain was raised, no doubt to keep it clean while work is going on.
The stalls on the main level on either side are separated by these carved faces painted in gold leaf.
