This is What We Remember

If you ever have the opportunity to visit the Hungarian State Opera, do it. Even if you are not an opera fan, put in your ear plugs and buy a ticket. They are not expensive and it is pleasure to simply sit for 2-3 hours in this beautiful space.

Of course, the ceiling and the chandelier is the crowning glory of the theater.

And the extravagant use of gold leaf really makes this place feel decadent. This is certainly the most richly decorated place I've ever been that was built for the purpose of the arts and enjoyment.

I could stand here and make photos all day long. Since it has taken nearly a week to post all this photos, you may think that I did, in fact, do that.

This brings us to the end of our time in Budapest. We had originally planned to visit several places in the Czech Republic, but the summer troubles with air travel forced us to be more conservative with our travel plans when British Airways cancelled our flight out of Prague. Thus, our next stop is Vienna. While we've been there before, we've not visited in the summer and not for so long. More extravagant buildings (mostly churches) to be seen. Stay tuned.
