St. Stephen's - IV

Here is the main altar area of the church. It is interesting to see that the floor is a nice marble but laid out in a very traditional, almost plain, pattern.

The bright colors of the stained glass on either side of the altar piece really offset the somber black of the columns and backdrop.

Looking to the left we can the Wiener Neustadt Altar.

On the right side is the Apostles' Nave. Here we find Emperor Friedrich III's sepulchre. I could not get access to the stairs tha would have allowed me to photograph the effigy on the top of the tomb. He is honored here since he was the emperor who convinced the Pope to create the Bishopric of Vienna.

Looking back from the main altar towards the entryway, we see the old main pipe organ in the loft at the rear of the church, the new main organ nearby on the left, and a third organ in between. This is really a "organ-full" place.

Here's another view of the primary organ.
