Leaves and Stems

The changes of the fall season continue apace. Sometimes the changes are fast...so fast we can't quite keep up and sometimes they are depressingly slow. Here, we find the surprise of even the stems of the leaves change colors when the leaves do. 

I continue to take photos of the leaves on a burning bush when I find one. These things are really arresting. I am especially taken with the difference in color between the leaves and the berries.

And, sure enough, here we are with sticks. Well, actually, three limbs. There is a circle of life thing going on here with layers of life on life surrounded by life. 

Sometimes the veins in the leaves seem so vibrant that I half expect to them throbbing as the life juices pulse through them.

Oddly enough, there are trees and bushes that put out fresh buds this time of year. I'll keep an eye out to see what becomes of these seemingly out-of-season activities.
