Along the Skagit River

We took a ride up to the Skagit valley to see if we could see any bald eagles. Short answer...no, we couldn't. But we did see some scenes that were worth a look. At Marblemount, the Skagit River takes a turn and this bridge crosses it. Underneath the bridge is a boat landing where I stood to take the shot.
Between Rockport and Marblemount is a small roadside park along the river. Across the road is this field with the small Episcopal church at one end. With the foggy morning (even at 11:00 AM), it makes a nice view.

It is clear that there is much more rain here than in Snohomish. There is much more moss and lichen on the trees and everything else, for that matter. There is even moss hanging from the trees much as the spanish moss in the south does in the humid air near the shore.

This fog shrouded view of the hillside on the opposite side of the road from the river is from the  brightened with the sun reflecting the"spanish moss" hanging from the trees.

As you can see, nothing that stand still here is not covered but a thick layer of lichen and moss.

Even at a modestly higher elevation than us, the trees are covered in frost/snow.

The image below has such a clear line where the frosty trees are and aren't, it suggests a sharp temperature gradient. Even near midday, the clouds and fog and the low sun angle all make it feel like morning.
