The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe

As the heat continues, we thought it'd be smart to visit a nice cool church to take some photos. Well it was nice to visit this church but it was far from cool. You will notice in some of the photos that you see fans. Of course they are off today since there is no service in progress.

I converted these images to B&W because the simplicity of the lines and the color scheme added very little to the composition. I especially enjoy the shades of gray and textures in the photo above.

The altar area, shown below, is only slightly more colorful with the greenery and the gold frame. Still, I think this grayscale image works better than the color.

Overhead, there is the dome. Looking across the transept, we see a very simple dome with only four daubs of color at the bottom. The curve of the balcony adds an organic flair to the staid geometry.

The wide angle lens used here (14 mm) distorts the circular dome into an ellipse since it at one side of the image. This look down the nave shows that this is not a huge place.

The church was pretty empty. The fellow was deep in prayer and probably not enjoying the heat either.
