Outside the Foundry

Outside the foundry we find various things either made here, used here, or both. Above is a cable hoist of the sort used in the gold mines to raise/lower people and ore out/in the mine.

There is a sign that tells a little of the historical significance of this place.

There is outside storage for some of the stock.

It is unclear to me what this might be but I'm pretty sure it was used somehow in the mining process. While I'm pretty sure that the teeth on the gears are tapered to facilitate the meshing of the gears, I am now inclined to believe that it is also done this way as part of the demands of the process of creating the sand moulds and guaranteeing that the cooling process is uniform.

One of the smaller lathes is sitting outside.

After a fire, the outside walls were rebuilt with sheet metal instead of wood.

There is even the remains of a road grader. This was pulled behind a truck to smooth out the roads hearabouts. It shares many design features with ern graders, don't you think?
