After several month of exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains, we have ended our house sit and started the journey homeward. Our first stop is in Eureka, CA. The most prominent sight to see here is the Carson Mansion.
Wikipedia says:
The Carson Mansion is a large Victorian house located in Old Town, Eureka, California. Regarded as one of the highest executions of American Queen Anne style architecture,[2]: 33 the house is "considered the most grand Victorian home in America."[3] It is one of the most written about and photographed Victorian houses in California and possibly also in the United States.[3]
Of course, the neighbors are not too shabby either. Across the street, facing the mansion, is this coral-colored house.
Downtown, we find lots more elegant victorian architecture. These buildings have all been converted to storefronts and apartments nowadays, but the spirit of the buildings has been preserved.
And in the store windows, we find a bit of funky punk to spice up the morning.
