A Few Useful Things and Some That Aren't

Today, I thought I'd bring you a few items ranging from the frivolous to the serious to keep various parts of your brain engaged.

First up is the Calf of Man viewed while standing in a darned brisk wind. This is the view from Cregneash, just inland a short way from the coast.

The efforts of others below the fold.

LIke you, I have little else to do but surf the web, so I thought that today I;d collect a few items to entertain and educate you on the current state of the world. First up is the efforts of a clever hairdresser in Oss Holland.

If you need something more to engage your attention, try out this video of one of the most amazing "Rube Goldberg" machines I've seen in a great while. I get the feeling that there is much more behind the scenes here than we are seeing to make this all work seamlessly.

On a more serious note, there is a great new video from Minute Physics. If you don't know this Youtube channel, you really need to head on over and check it out. Lots of good stuff there. The latest addition is this video on a different way to look at what is happening with the corona virus and how to meaningfully compare what is happening in various countries around the world. Very clever.

Another YouTuber is recommend for the mathematically inclined is 3Blue1Brown. Grant Sanderson does an excellent job of breaking down complex ideas and explaining them with lots of graphics that really make things clear. His latest contribution shows a variety of simulations of how the corona virus might spread to give you an idea of what is happening in the world now and how various actions taken by governments do and don't work.

If you are more than the normal amount of concerned for yourself or your loved ones, Apple has a new tool to help screen for covid-19 based on recommendations from the CDC.

Next, Politico offers two new ways to get a feel for what is happening around the world as the virus takes hold everywhere.

Finally, here's something that needs to be seen to be believed or, for that matter, understood. Once you watch it you see why it defies description.

I promise everyday day won't be filled with so much serious stuff but it just seemed like a good thing to do start what promises to be a long quarantine. Good luck and happy staying-inside-and-waving-at-all-the-neighbors time.
