Snaefellsnes Peninsula - Part 3

This farmhouse sitting along the main road was framed by some rugged mountains. This is one the images that really conveys the emptiness of this beautiful place.

And without the house in the corner, it is even emptier feeling.

We stopped here because the road crosses a lava field. You can see the jumble of lava boulders near us.

They also make an interesting foreground for the more distant mountains.

These mountains were most impressive. Our driver talked about Icelanders like to just go for a hike out over hills like this... mostly in the summer.

We also were treated to a visit with some of the other natives. These Icelandic horses were perfectly tame and not at all afraid of us. They posed for us and were happy to have their photos made.

We were told that there is a market for these handsome animals in other countries. However, once exported, they can never return to avoid spreading some foreign disease. These animal are all disease-free naturally.

And handsome they are.

In fast, everything here is photo-worthy.

And so I leave you with this photo of clouds, painted by the slowly setting sun.
