Plaza Balcón de Europa, Nerja

At the edge of the Mediterranean in Nerja is the Plaza Balcón de Europa, the Balcony of Europe. From here you can seemingly see forever.

The deep blue of the sea and the crip outlines of the mountains make this a wonderful place to stroll, sit, and enjoy. It is also clear that in warmer months, people enjoy swimming as well.

Here's a look around on the Balcón. Sorry for the wind noise. You can just hear a busker over the noise of the parakeets nesting in the trees.

Down at the end of the Balcón is another busker playing for us tourists and expats.

The coast is ringed with apartments, no doubt filled with tourists and expats from all over Europe.

A beautiful day in a beautiful place.

One the way out of town, we passed the 19th century aqueduct. It is still used today to provide water for farmland.

During the Civil War the aqueduct suffered direct hits from shells fired during naval bombardments. This damage has only recently been repaired; for most of 2011 the aqueduct was covered in scaffolding whilst renovations and repairs took place, however some of the damage is still visible. The project cost €514,000 and was financed by both the Junta de Andalucía and the Municipal Council. It has been officially named a Site of Special Cultural Interest by the Andalusian Government.
