La Llotja de Mercaders
Not far from the Central Market is the La Llotja de Mercaders, the Commodity Exchange Building. Construction on this building was begun in 1493.
Today it is a museum of sorts. There is nothing in it, the museum is the building itself. But it does have some really interesting features.
This large room is the contracts hall used for commercial transations.
Like all old buildings with large interiors spaces, it has interesting ceilings.
Upstairs is the Pavilion of the Consulate of the Sea with its roof dating from the 15th century.
There is also a tower. I did not try to climb the tower but I was ablee to get a photo from the outside.
Looks more like a castle than a place of business. But I suppose that important places in the 15th century all look like castles since that was the only way known to build important things.
