On the Southern Coast of Spain, Near Malaga
I brought our GPS expressly for this housesit since I knew we'd be driving. And, indeed, it is helpful. However, we are house sitting in a house situated on a "road" that in not in the GPS and does not have an address. It does have a name, Molino de Alborán, but that seems to only be useful on the gate post at the entrance of the driveway. We are not off-grid, but definitely, off the map.
We met our host near the main road and he escorted us down (and I do mean down) to the house. There were parts of the paved in a concrete mixture, clearly in places that have washed out frequently. Most of the road was a rutted and bumpy narrow track with hairpin turns and no guardrails that headed, apparently, straight down.
But the drive was worth it. We landed in a slice of heaven.
We are surrounded by avocado and olive groves filled with birds (the tiny, invisible kind as far as I can tell) singing like their lives depended on it (and it might!).
The image below is looking upward a perhaps a 50 degree angle (note the angle of the trees on the hillside. At the top of the hill you can see a truck (white rectangle) on the paved road we took to the meeting with our host.
Our view of the mediterranean is blocked by the hill behind the house, but looking north/northwest, we have lovely views of the hills around us.
I normally, don;t post images of the houses we sit to protect the privacy of the home owners. But in this case, I think it is safe to look back in the direction of the house (not that you can really see it, but it is in there).
An interesting thing to note in the image above is that the field on the hillside to the right is covered in olives. In the foreground, we see a recent planting of avocados. The nearby avocados are blue because of some fertilizer or something that is put on them. But the olives are, well, olive colored. Who'd have thought that they be that color!
